Here's What's Really Going On-
Dizziness can be really unsettling. The room spinning, feeling off-balance, lightheadedness—it affects your confidence and makes daily activities stressful.
Dizziness has a lot of potential causes: inner ear problems (like BPPV), blood pressure issues, medication side effects, dehydration, or neurological problems. But there's one cause that often gets overlooked: cervicogenic dizziness—dizziness that comes from neck dysfunction.
Your cervical spine has tons of proprioceptive input (position sense) that goes to your brain and helps with balance and spatial orientation. When the upper cervical spine isn't moving right or there's muscle tension affecting proprioception, it can create dizziness.
We evaluate cervical mechanics, especially in the upper neck. Restrictions in the upper cervical spine can absolutely contribute to dizziness and balance issues.
Chiropractic adjustments to restore normal cervical mechanics often reduce or eliminate dizziness when it's cervicogenic. Patients frequently report feeling "clearer" and more stable after upper cervical adjustments.
Now, if your dizziness is from an inner ear problem or something else, we'll recognize that and refer you appropriately. But cervicogenic dizziness is common and responds really well to conservative care.
The goal's getting you steady and confident again. Dizziness creates anxiety and limits what you feel safe doing. Addressing the cervical component can make a huge difference in getting your life back to normal.
