Here's What's Really Going On-
Muscle spasms—those sudden, involuntary contractions that can be incredibly painful—are your body's protective response to pain or dysfunction. Your nervous system detects a problem (joint dysfunction, inflammation, injury) and locks down muscles to protect the area.
The problem is, the spasm itself becomes part of the issue. Contracted muscles create more pain, restrict movement, and can even pull joints further out of alignment.
We address what's triggering the spasm. Joint restrictions are a huge cause. When a spinal joint isn't moving right, the surrounding muscles spasm to stabilize it. Fix the joint dysfunction, and often the spasms calm down.
Inflammation and nerve irritation can also trigger spasms. If a disc is irritating a nerve, or there's significant inflammation in an area, your body responds with protective muscle contraction.
Chiropractic adjustments restore normal joint mechanics, which removes a major trigger for spasms. When joints move properly, the nervous system doesn't feel the need to lock everything down.
Laser therapy reduces inflammation and promotes tissue healing, which can help break the pain-spasm cycle.
In acute cases, we might also use specific techniques to release muscle tension directly.
The goal's getting past the spasm so normal movement can return. Muscle spasms are miserable, but they're usually a symptom of something else. Address the underlying cause, and the spasms typically resolve.
